State Councilor Visited CEODE

On 21 May, accompanied by CAS President LU Yongxiang, State Councilor LIU Yandong, made an inspection tour of the CEODE taskforce for quake disaster monitoring and evaluation using remote-sensing technology, expressing solicitude to CAS researchers working for the quake relief operation. After listening to reports on CAS advancements and quake rescue operation given by CAS Executive Vice President BAI Chunli, and Prof. FANG Xin, respectively, Liu stressed that CAS should probe into the mechanisms and patterns of earthquakes and other natural disasters so as to work out countermeasures. She also urged that CAS should step up efforts in setting up disaster monitoring systems and develop key technologies for the forecasting and reduction of the disasters.
