A Welcome Reception Smoothly Held by Organizing Committee of ISDE6

Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Organizing Committee of ISDE6, a Welcome Reception for welcoming over one thousand symposium participants and exhibitors from more than 40 countries was held at 19:00 of September 9, 2009.

CAS Vice President Yin Hejun in his address extended a warm welcome to the ISDE6 attendees and expressed his wish that a digital earth platform for global data sharing could be established now that a higher and higher priority was placed on the advancement of digital earth sciences from the perspectives of the representatives of various scientific departments and offices of the National Government. As the highest ranked scientific institution in China, CAS persistently defined itself as the forefront of the digital earth development. Rather than a scientific project or technical objective, digital earth is strategic research interest and Systems in Science and Engineering which needed a joint effort from the nations all around the world. Subsequently, conferred sponsorship certificates by Prof. Yin Hejun, the Platinum Sponsors claimed commitment to the further enhancement of corporation between the business and sciences, as well as the sustainable development of digital earth sciences and applications.

A number of traditional Chinese performances such as acrobatics and dance shown in the banquet, the ones presented by the CEODE staff in particular, were spoken highly of by all the participants and exhibitors. In the lion dance of the most traditional Chinese culture, the member of U.S. Academy of Sciences Michael F. Goodchild and GEO Secretariat Director Jose Achache added the finishing touch on a new prop lion. Eventually, the show came to climax with the blessing of "Building Digital Earth, For the Benefit of Society."
